Wake Up Your Skin! DIY Coffee Scrub August 7, 2016 20:35 9 Comments

It's another hot summer in South Florida, I mean HOT! Skin drying, dehydrating HOT! No matter how much I have tried to moisturize and hydrate my skin, it felt nothing but dry and dull. So... I treated myself to a super easy DIY coffee scrub, and now I feel and look hydrated and refreshed!

Scrubs are easy to make, wonderful for your complexion, and a fun treat! I whipped up my scrub today with only 4 ingredients: coconut oil, coffee grounds, coconut palm sugar, and cinnamon.

Coconut oil is my go-to natural beauty ingredient; I use it on my skin and hair for its moisturizing and healing properties. It is easily absorbed into your skin without clogging pores. It is naturally antibacterial, which helps fight acne. When buying coconut oil, make sure the label reads "raw, cold pressed, unrefined and organic" (if possible). Coconut oil melts at 76 degrees so don't be alarmed if your jar goes from solid to liquid, then back to solid again. That is normal.

Coffee Grounds are one of natures greatest exfoliants. Coffee ground are rich in antioxidants and, of course, caffeine. This helps smooth and firm your skin, while gently scrubbing away the dead skin cells, exposing fresh glowing skin.

Sugar is a natural humectant, drawing moisture to the skin. I used coconut sugar; however, you can use white sugar, brown sugar, whatever you have on hand. Be mindful of the size of the grain. A nice fine grain sugar adds extra gentle exfoliating properties to the scrub.

Cinnamon helps bring blood to the surface of the skin, helping to smooth out any fine lines. It also kills surface bacteria, which helps clear up blemishes.

So lets get started!

The recipe I use is:

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil (more if needed)
  • 1/2 cup coffee grounds
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Grind your coffee. If you are using used grounds, be sure to dry them completely.

Scoop your coconut oil into a mixing bowl, then add dry ingredients.

Stir until all ingredients are combined. Add a little more coconut oil if it is too dry. It should be moist enough to mold into a ball but not so moist that its runny.

Scoop into an airtight container.

To use, simply scoop out and gently massage into your face and body. Always start out with clean makeup free skin. rinse with warm water and pat dry.

Enjoy your glowing skin!

Soap Naturals is Moving to a New Soap Studio! April 14, 2016 19:54 6 Comments

Hard work does pay off! I am so excited to announce that Sope Naturals is getting a new and improved soap studio!  We are staying local in Lake Worth Florida so it's not a far move but it is a big one! The studio will be built out, which will take some time, and there are hundreds of pounds of oils and natural ingredients to move, not to mention all of our existing soap! Please be patient for the next few weeks while we make this transition. Order are still being accepted, they just may take a day or two or three longer to make it to the post office.

What does this mean for you? The new studio will be larger and more efficient! Best Selling Soaps won't be out of stock as often since there will be much more curing space! There will be some serious soaping going on! All of our soaps will remain the same high quality, small batch, handmade from scratch, natural recipes.  There may even be some classes/workshops in the future!

I am so excited to move and build and make tons and tons of natural soap for all of you! Now who's helping!

What is your favorite natural soap? (an ongoing soap review) August 11, 2015 07:04

As a natural soaper, I use a bar of each soap I make for quality testing reasons. Soap is a personal choice for many reasons. Do you want to feel squeaky clean? Do you want to feel moisturized? Do you have sensitive skin? Everyone wants something different so I make all types of soap, some will be my favorites, some I will not be in love with but will be a best seller. To each his own.

Soooooo, I am going to keep you posted on what I am currently using with my honest review of my own creations.

8/11/15

Florida has different seasons than the rest of the world. Right now it is mosquito season! It is hot humid and buggy outside! Makes you want to move here, right? The sunshine is great when you are relaxing by the pool or at the beach, but going to work, running errands, even getting in and out of the car in this heat can make you feel like you are a hot sticky mess after you have taken a shower and gotten ready for your day!

Right now I am hooked on my Summer Camp Soap. It has a very generous thick lather that is sooooooo soothing. The cocoa butter in the soap eliminated the need for me to use lotion after the shower. The last thing I want to do in this heat is cover my body with lotion. It is a tiny bit exfoliating from the infused annatto seed, this feels great on dry itchy skin after a long day outside. Rosemary and eucalyptus are known to repel pesky insects so I feel confident that I will be left alone by all of the lovely bugs that are lurking in the humid air. The scent is very mild and uplifting. I use it on my face and body. Overall, Summer Camp Soap leaves me feeling clean, moisturized and ready to take the heat.  Order yours here http://www.sopenaturals.com/products/summer-camp-soap
